Gerald J. Hedrick Jr.

March 4, 1947 — June 19, 2026

Gerald J. Hedrick Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, after a short illness that he courageously fought. Born on March 4, 1947, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Gerald lived a life full of adventure, love, and dedication. He was 79 years old. Gerald was the beloved son of the late Gerald J. and Maud G. Hedrick. He was preceded in death by his cherished sister, Jean, and his brother, Don, whom he held dear throughout his life. Gerald is survived by his devoted wife, Becky, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters who carry forward his warmth and strength. His legacy continues through his five adoring grandchildren, who were constant sources of pride and joy for him. A proud veteran, Gerald served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. His service instilled in him values that he carried throughout his life: integrity, courage, and a deep sense of duty. For the majority of his career, Gerald worked as a state licensed general contractor. His dedication to his work was matched only by his love for the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, trawling, or hunting, Gerald found peace and contentment in nature. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, and he shared his passions generously with those around him. Gerald was also a cherished member of the Dad’s Club at Cabrini High School, where he formed bonds that lasted a lifetime. He relished the camaraderie of parking cars for Jazz Fest and found simple joys in cooking and baking cookies, activities that brought smiles to friends and family alike. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Hospital for their kindness and compassion during Gerald's final days. Their support was a source of great comfort. A service to celebrate Gerald's life will be held on June 29, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the Garden of Memories. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Gerald are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. In this time of sorrow, we remember Gerald not for the loss we feel but for the indelible mark he left on our hearts. His laughter, wisdom, and love will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him. Rest in peace, Gerald. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
