Gerald Dean Wood (Jerry)

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Dean Wood, lovingly known as Jerry, on August 1, 2026. Born on September 1, 1947, in Trinidad, Colorado, Jerry was a man whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and kindness. Jerry was the beloved son of Earl L. Wood and Josephine Esquibel, who have gone before him. He was also predeceased by his siblings Louis, John Wood, Leona, and Francis DeHerrera. Despite these losses, Jerry's spirit and legacy are carried forward by his surviving family: his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Delores K. Wood (Kathy), his son Rocky Wood Sr., and his daughter Bridgitte Wood. He was a proud grandfather to Rocky Wood Jr., Evan Wood, Kailei Souders, and Tiffani Ruehlen, and a great-grandfather to three precious great-grandchildren. Jerry served his country with honor in the US Navy, enlisting in 1964, an experience that shaped his character and instilled a deep sense of duty and integrity. After his service, Jerry dedicated 35 years of his life to his craft as a sheet metal polisher, where he was known not only for his skill but also for his commitment to mentoring young professionals, sharing his expertise, and encouraging others to pursue excellence. Education was important to Jerry, and in 1983, he achieved a significant milestone by obtaining his GED, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth. Those who knew Jerry will fondly remember his quick wit, infectious smile, and generous nature. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy and laughter to any situation, brightening the lives of all who were fortunate to know him. In his spare time, Jerry found joy in the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, passions he shared with his family and friends. His love for gardening was evident in the lush gardens that adorned his home, a living testament to his nurturing spirit and appreciation for nature's beauty. Jerry leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lessons that will continue to inspire all those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerry's memory to a charity of your choice. As we say goodbye to Jerry, we hold onto the memories of a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were touched by his warmth and kindness.
