Gerald Chancey

July 5, 1958 — June 27, 2026

Gerald Chancey, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on July 5, 1958, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, Gerald was the cherished son of the late Gus and Mary Chancey. He was the youngest of four siblings, growing up in a household filled with love and laughter. Gerald's formative years unfolded in the nurturing community of LaGrange, Illinois, where he attended Cossitt Elementary School and Lyons Township High School. It was during these years that he developed a lifelong love for music and dance, talents that would bring joy to those around him throughout his life. His sense of humor was infectious, lighting up every room and every heart he encountered. For many years, Gerald dedicated his professional life to Vulcan Materials Company in Countryside, Illinois. His colleagues remember him not only for his commitment and hard work but also for his unwavering positivity and ability to make even the toughest days a little brighter. Gerald was a man of deep faith. He found spiritual solace and inspiration at Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park, Illinois, under the guidance of Pastor Bill Winston. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through times of joy and challenge alike. Family was of utmost importance to Gerald. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Mary, and his dear sisters, Janet, Laurie, and Linda. Despite these profound losses, Gerald's heart remained full of love for those who survived him. He leaves behind a family who adored him deeply: his sister Jacqueline Sykes and brother Alaric Chancey, both of Maywood, IL; his brother-in-law Terry Sykes; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Yolanda (Wendell) Luckett, Shannon (Kevin) Ford, Sherice, Santra, Taj, Demetrius, Kendall, Dorsallon, DeAndre, Donavan, Kevin Ford Jr, Julian, and Alexander. His extended family and friends, too numerous to count, will forever cherish his memory. Gerald's life was a testament to the power of connection. Whether through a phone call or a gathering, he relished every opportunity to bring his family together, sharing stories, laughter, and love. His legacy is one of joy, unity, and an unwavering belief in the importance of togetherness. As we celebrate Gerald's life, we remember the music he danced to, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of Gerald's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory and the indelible mark he left on the world. Until then, we find comfort in the knowledge that he rests in peace, reunited with those who went before him, and enveloped in the eternal love of God. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gerald's memory to a charitable organization of your choice, reflecting his own generous spirit and compassion for others.
