Gerald Schubert, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away at home on October 22, 2026, after a courageous and lengthy battle with liver disease. Born on May 11, 1947, in the picturesque town of Leavenworth, WA, Gerald lived a life rich with love, dedication, and service to others.
Gerald, affectionately known as Gerry, was the devoted husband of Judy, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Their journey together began on April 21, 1972, in Vancouver, WA, and was blessed with three children: Gary (married to Lorena), Jennifer (married to Mark Reed), and Steven. He was also a cherished grandfather to Andelyn, Amiah, Axle, Paxton, Preston, Rayanne, Kayla, Keifer, Shayleigh, and Stetson. His love extended even further to his great-grandchildren, with whom he shared a particularly special bond, especially with his great-granddaughter Charlotte, who found comfort in "Papa's" warm embrace.
A graduate of Battleground High School in 1966, Gerald discovered his calling in farming, a passion that defined much of his life. He honed his skills at renowned locations like Manor Farms and L&L Farms before realizing his dream of owning and operating G & J Farms, his own 104-acre piece of heaven. Even a life-altering fall from a haystack could not dampen his spirit. After selling most of the farm, he embarked on a new chapter at A & L Supply with Leonard Lyons , which later became Ag Spray, in Othello, where he continued to work with dedication, skill, and lots of humor.
Gerald was an active member of the Connell Nazarene Church, where he served in numerous capacities, including as a church board member, usher, and even as a wise man in the Christmas Nativity. His faith and commitment to his community were evident in every role he undertook, from cooking to building, and everything in between.
Family was the heart of Gerald's life. He was a man of immense generosity, always ready to lend a hand or offer support. His kindness and work ethic set a shining example for everyone who knew him. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
In addition to his immediate family, Gerald is survived by his siblings, Richard (Rosie) Schubert, Kathy Loeber, and Jan (Craig) Benedict, along with numerous special nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Joyce and Harlan Schubert, sister, Jeanne Mori, brother-in-laws, Kelvin Mori, and Ron Loeber.
A celebration of Gerald's life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Connell Church of the Nazarene, located at 500 E. Franklin, Connell, WA 99326. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests contributions to the playground fund at the Connell Church of the Nazarene, a cause close to Gerald's heart.
Judy, Jennifer, and Gary extend their deepest gratitude to the Kadlec staff and nurses who provided exceptional care during Gerald's final months. A special thanks to Alex Arnold and nurses Tonya, Michael, Leslie, and Esmeralda for their compassionate and loving treatment.
Gerald's legacy of love, hard work, and service will remain in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered.

Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord,
across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints
in the sand, one belonging to me
and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest
and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed you the most,
you would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child,
I love you and will never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."
