Georgianna Szweda
March 1, 1936 — June 15, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Georgianna Szweda on June 15, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 1, 1936, in South Bend, Indiana, Georgianna was a beacon of love, strength, and grace throughout her 90 years of life.
The daughter of Jenny and Joseph Mackowiak, Georgianna was raised in a home filled with warmth and kindness. She was a proud graduate of Washington High School, class of 1954, where she fostered lifelong friendships.
On June 16, 1956, Georgianna married , Eugene (Gene) Szweda, at St. Casimir Catholic Church. Spanning 69 years until Gene's passing.
Georgianna was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband Gene, her cherished sisters Mary Mackowiak and Henrietta (Victor) Gerbasick, and her dear brothers Alouis (Betty) Mackowiak, Joseph (Virginia) Mackowiak, and Clement (Mary Jane) Mackowiak. She held each of them close to her heart and carried their memories with her throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving children, Chris (Rita) Szweda, Cheryl (Mike) Watford, and Colleen (Todd) Lane, who were the pride and joy of her life. Georgianna's legacy continues through her treasured grandchildren, Ashley Stoffl, Melissa (Paul) Horvath, Kyle (Hannah) Watford, Aubrie (Brian) Lares, and Evan (Kyla) Lane, and her adored great-grandchildren Lucy Stoffl, Marin, Nora, and Clementine Horvath, Alaina and Maddyn Lares, and Baby Lane. Each of them carries a piece of her heart and spirit.
Georgianna spent her final years at Providence House, where she was cared for with dignity and compassion. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their unwavering kindness and support.
A celebration of Georgianna's life will be held at St. Casimir Catholic Church, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and celebrate the love she shared with all of us. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory, spreading the love and kindness that she exemplified throughout her life.
Rest in peace, dear Georgianna. You are deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
