May 18, 1944 — June 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Georgia Lee Munro, who left us peacefully at her home on June 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 18, 1944, in Saginaw, Michigan, Georgia was the beloved daughter of the late George and Elnora Defrees. Georgia was a woman of remarkable strength and character, qualities she carried with her from her formative years in Michigan through her dedicated service in the U.S. Army. From January 1963 to January 1966, Georgia served as a Dental Specialist, providing care and comfort to her fellow service members. On May 18, 1966, Georgia married the love of her life, James Munro Jr., embarking on a journey that would be filled with joy, love, and shared dreams. Together, they raised a family and created a home where laughter and warmth were ever-present. Although James preceded her in death, their bond remained unbroken by time or distance. Georgia's professional journey saw her retire from the U.S. Geological Survey in Rolla, Missouri, in 1999, marking the end of a distinguished career characterized by dedication and integrity. Her family was the center of Georgia's world. She is survived by her cherished daughter, Christie Munro, and her husband, Pablo Navarro. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Erika Burris and her husband Jordan, Cristian Navarro and his wife Kiran, and her precious great-granddaughter, Sophia Burris. Additionally, she leaves behind her brother, James Defrees, and his wife Bonnie, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Georgia was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James Munro Jr.; her son, James Lee Munro; her infant son; her brother, Conrad Defrees; and her sister, Barbara Enszer. Each held a special place in her heart, and she now joins them in eternal rest. A service to honor Georgia's life will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery, located at 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA 30114. As we gather to remember Georgia, we celebrate the love and joy she brought into our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Georgia's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. This was a cause close to her heart, reflecting her enduring compassion and desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Georgia Lee Munro leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
