It is with deep love and profound respect that we announce the passing of Georgia C. Smith, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved member of our community. Georgia peacefully departed this world on April 21, 2026, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and an enduring spirit that touched all who knew her. Born on September 10, 1935, in Charlotte, NC, Georgia was the beloved daughter of Lessie Hicklin. She was raised in a home filled with love and went on to spread that love to everyone she encountered throughout her life. Georgia was predeceased by her parents, Lessie Adams and George Cathcart, her devoted son, Kenneth Cathcart, and her beloved husband, Walter Lee Smith, with whom she shared a beautiful union for 58 years. On June 27, 1958, Georgia married Walter Lee Smith in Charlotte, NC, where they built a life centered around family, faith, and community. Together, they raised a family rooted in love and respect. Georgia is lovingly remembered by her children: Paula (Linda) Cathcart, Ronald Cathcart, John Cathcart and his wife Silvia, Michale Smith and his wife Marnita, and Wanda Stevenson and her husband Thedrick. Her legacy continues through her 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her heart with them. Georgia attended Second Ward High School and worked diligently as a maid for 17 years, providing for her family with grace and strength. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her dedication to her community. An active member of O’zion AME Zion Church, Georgia served as an usher in the Women’s Missionary Society and was a devoted member of the Mass Choir, Gospel Choir, and the Hymn Choir. Her voice, both in song and in spirit, brought joy to those around her and lifted the hearts of many. Known for her warmth and infectious happiness, Georgia was a beacon of light to everyone she met. Her joyful presence was felt in her community and especially in her family, where she was affectionately known as the family cook. Her delightful meals and desserts were legendary, and her recipes will be cherished and passed down for generations to come. A service to honor and celebrate Georgia's life will be held on April 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM at A.E. Grier and Sons Funeral Home, located at 2310 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206.
