George Southwick

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Southwick, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. George departed this world peacefully on September 20, 2026, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and craftsmanship. Born on March 23, 1945, in Louisville, Kentucky, George was the cherished son of Lewis and Virginia (Condon) Southwick. He was preceded in death by his parents and will be fondly remembered by his surviving brother Ned Southwick and sisters Mary Jane Wallace, Betty Jennings, and Ruth Sams, as well as his brothers-in-law Bob Wallace, John Jennings, Bernie Sams, and Stephen Oakley. George was a proud graduate of Waggener High School in Louisville, class of 1963. His passion for the great outdoors led him to Murray State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Park Management and Recreation. George's academic journey was a testament to his dedication and love for nature, which he carried throughout his life. In service to his country, George enlisted in the United States Air Force. Rising swiftly to the rank of E-5 SSGT, he served as a crew chief with dedication and honor until his medical discharge. His time in the Air Force was a source of pride and camaraderie that stayed with him always. On November 21, 1970, George married the love of his life, Brenda Oakley Southwick. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter and adventure. George was a devoted father to his son, David Southwick, and a proud grandfather to Haile, Makenna, and Lathan Southwick. His great-granddaughter, Gianna Southwick, brought immense joy to his later years. George's professional life was as diverse and fulfilling as his personal one. While he pursued various careers, his true passion lay in woodworking and furniture making. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in every piece he created, leaving a lasting impression on all who interacted with his work. An active member of his community, George was a former member of the Cadiz Rotary Club. His warmth and generosity of spirit were felt by those around him, including his dear friends Tammy Birdsong and Toni Martinazzi. An avid sportsman, George spent countless hours enjoying hunting and fishing adventures with friends and family. His love for the open road took him on motorcycling journeys across the United States and Canada, where he relished the freedom and beauty of the landscapes. George is survived by his loving wife Brenda, son David, grandchildren Haile, Makenna, and Lathan, and great-granddaughter Gianna. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Penny Southwick and Penny Anderson (with husband Jimmy), and his beloved Aunt Virginia Gardner. In honoring George's memory, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice that supports veterans or nature conservation. George Southwick's life was a testament to love, dedication, and the joy of living. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those he touched.
