With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of George Ray Wilkinson Jr. on March 1, 2026, in Carson City, Nevada, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on June 12, 1947, in the serene city of Monterey, California, George's life was a tapestry of unwavering dedication, love, and resilience. He leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished and celebrated by all who knew him.
George was the beloved son of the late George Ray Wilkinson and Marion Aurora Young Wilkinson, who predeceased him. He was a devoted husband to Stephanie Wilkinson, with whom he shared 58 beautiful years of marriage, having wed on June 14, 1967, in California. Together, they built a family rooted in love and strength, nurturing three sons: Anthony Wilkinson, Richard Wilkinson, and Jeremy Wilkinson. His family expanded with the joy of four grandchildren—Nicholas, Jacob, Riley, and Amie—and the delight of great-grandchildren Beau, Walt, Dean, and a cherished great-granddaughter, Amelia.
George's life was enriched by his sisters, Linda Thompson and Kathy (Scott) Williams, as well as numerous extended family members and lifelong friends. His kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on each of them, as did his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
A proud veteran, George served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1965 to 1969. Following his military service, he dedicated 32 years to his craft as a structural and reinforcing ironworker, a career that took him from the Los Angeles 416 Ironworkers Union to the Local Reno 118 Ironworkers Union. His work was not just an occupation but a passion, characterized by his pride and commitment to excellence. Through his labor, he forged not only steel but also lifelong friendships that stood the test of time.
In his leisure, George found joy in the simple pleasures of life—fishing with family and friends, and creating precious memories with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His selfless nature and devotion to doing things right were evident in every aspect of his life, endearing him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A service to honor and celebrate George's remarkable life will be held on March 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Waltons Memorial, located at 1281 N Carson St, Carson City, NV 89701.
