It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of George Peter Salamone, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. George left this world on May 25, 2026, at the age of 95, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family in the comfort of his home.
Born on March 15, 1931, in Schenectady, New York, George was a beacon of strength, humility, and kindness. He was the beloved son of Salvatore and Josephine Salamone, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion that he carried throughout his life. George was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Atillio and Frank Salamone, and his grandson Ryan M. Salamone. Their memories, however, lived on through George's stories and the legacy he built with his family.
George shared an extraordinary love story with his devoted wife, Elsie Delores Salamone. They married on October 14, 1951, embarking on a journey of 76 incredible years together. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, George (Vera) Salamone and Michael (Wendy) Salamone, who were George's pride and joy.
A man of curious spirit and boundless generosity, George and Elsie traveled the world, exploring new cultures and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Closer to home, they cherished weekends camping and enjoying nature's beauty, an activity that became a family tradition cherished by their children and grandchildren.
George was a doting grandfather to Alicia (Brett) Powers, Melissa Salamone, Ashlyn (Christopher) Horwedell, and Michaela Salamone, as well as a loving great-grandfather to his six great-grandchildren. He took immense pride in their achievements and passed on his wisdom, humor, and love for life to each of them. His legacy of love and perseverance will live on through them, a testament to the remarkable man he was.
Family was the cornerstone of George's life. He embraced every moment with his loved ones, celebrating successes, offering comfort in times of need, and always leading by example. His generous spirit, infectious smile, and gentle demeanor touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
While our hearts are heavy with loss, we find solace in the legacy George leaves behind—a testament to a life filled with love, laughter, and countless treasured memories. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of choice in George's name, continuing his legacy of giving and kindness.
A private family service will be held to honor George's life. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, dear George. Your spirit will forever guide us.
