George Newton
April 14, 1948 — October 24, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of George Newton, who left us on October 24, 2026, surrounded by love at Pruitt Health, Peake Hospice, after courageously battling several illnesses. Born on April 14, 1948, in Macon, Georgia, George was a gentle soul whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone he encountered.
George was the beloved son of Helen Hudson Newton, and he is now reunited in eternal rest with his siblings, John, Larry, and Mary Newton, as well as his cherished stepson, Jason Warren. His legacy of love and kindness continues to thrive through those he left behind.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Nichole Newton, and his longtime life partner of over 25 years, Dorothy McDowell. George's caring spirit and wisdom will be forever cherished by his stepdaughters, Donna and Deena McDowell, and his five grandchildren: Tiana Newton Arline, India Newton Arline, Airelle Newton, Jamecia Newton, and Jalen Sandifer. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and countless lifelong friends and coworkers.
George's journey of education began at Peter G. Appling High School, after which he furthered his studies at Savanna College. His dedication and hard work led him to a successful career as the Catering Manager for Mercer University (Aarmark), where he served diligently for over 40 years. His colleagues will always remember him for his professionalism and unwavering dedication.
Outside of his career, George found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of sports, and his evenings were often spent immersed in the drama of "Law & Order." His love for television was only rivaled by his love for family gatherings, where his laughter and stories would fill the room with warmth.
A service to celebrate George's life will be held on November 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Bentley and Sons Funeral Home, located at 3077 Pio Nono Ave, Macon, GA 31206. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor and remember a man whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and community.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in George Newton’s memory to a charity of your choice. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, love, and dedication, and his memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew him.
