George Renard Smith, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, at the age of 63, after valiantly battling lung cancer. Born on August 18, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan, George's life was a testament to resilience, love, and humor.
The son of the late George and Octavia Smith, George was raised with strong family values and a deep sense of community. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Clifford Smith. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Charisse Smith, and their cherished children: sons Skylar Fortner and Shajne Smith, and daughter Serenity Smith. His siblings, Deloris Pettway (Berlin), Patricia Tunstull (Kevin), Linda Franklin, Debbie Smith, Sherry Smith, Terry Smith, and brother James Smith, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all remember him fondly.
George married the love of his life, Charisse Glass, on June 15, 1996. Together, they built a life brimming with love and laughter, raising their children and sharing countless memories. His career as a supervisor at Associates Manufacturing Plant spanned over four decades, a testament to his dedication and work ethic. An alumnus of Southeaster High School, class of 1981, he furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering Degree from Wayne State University in 1985.
A man of faith, George was a member of Faith Christian Community Church for over 30 years, where he accepted Christ into his heart early in life. His faith was a guiding light, offering strength and comfort throughout his journey.
George's exuberant personality was evident in his love for BBQs, where he delighted in sharing meals with family and friends. His trips to Japan held a special place in his heart, a place he returned to as often as possible. Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, George had a unique ability to bring joy and laughter to everyone around him.
The family extends their deepest appreciation for the many comforting messages, prayers, floral arrangements, and expressions of kindness received during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in George's memory.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor George's life. As we remember George, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
