George Joseph Leger, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, in hospice care after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 28, 1936, in the picturesque province of New Brunswick, Canada, George’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and creativity.
George was blessed with a loving family and is survived by his devoted wife, Claire Leger, with whom he shared 68 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their journey was filled with countless memories, from exploring new destinations to welcoming each new member of their growing family.
A proud father, George is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Susan Pico and Donna Garay. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy Bitter, whom he cherished dearly. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren, Alissa Hebert, Justin Dellogono, Elizabeth Garay, Gary GarayJr,Chelsea Bitter and Jeremy Bitter as well as his four great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. George also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
George was a man of many talents and passions. A gifted woodworker, he crafted pieces that were not only functional but also works of art, each bearing his unique touch. His love for painting was self-taught, and his canvases were a reflection of his vibrant spirit and keen eye for beauty. Whether he was in his workshop or standing before an easel, George poured his heart into everything he created.
Traveling was another passion that George and Claire shared. Together, they explored the world, embracing new cultures and experiences. These adventures enriched their lives and strengthened their bond, leaving them with stories that would be shared around the family table for years to come.
George’s life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family. He taught those around him the virtues of patience, kindness, and the joy of living life to the fullest. His warm smile and gentle spirit touched everyone he met, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we say goodbye to George, let us celebrate the incredible life he led and the love he shared so freely. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his family and friends whose lives he touched in immeasurable ways.
A memorial service to honor George’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share memories and celebrate a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a cancer research foundation of your choice, in honor of George's valiant fight against the disease.
