It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of George John Dragon, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this life on July 24, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on May 29, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA, George was the beloved son of George and Ethel Dragon. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service that will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
George was a man of honor and commitment, values he exemplified throughout his life. After proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force, George embarked on a long and fulfilling career at Philadelphia Gas Works, where he dedicated 38 years of service. His work ethic and integrity left an indelible mark on both his colleagues and the community he served.
On May 16, 1964, George married the love of his life, Joan Donohue. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering love. Their union, which spanned 62 wonderful years, was blessed with three children: Linda Gumpper (married to Brendan Kirk), George (married to Jeanine), and Christopher (married to Krissy).
George found immense joy in his family, which grew to include nine cherished grandchildren: Samantha, Abigail, Emily, Katherine, George, Nicholas, Megan, Gianna, and Anthony, as well as four great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Kevin, and Norah Joan. His family was his pride and joy, and he found great pleasure in their achievements and happiness.
George's life was a testament to the strength of character, kindness, and the importance of family. He was a guiding light to his loved ones, offering wisdom and support with a gentle spirit. Though his passing leaves a void in our hearts, his enduring legacy and the love he shared with those around him will forever remain.
In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor George's life and memory. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in George's memory to a charity of your choice, ensuring that his spirit of generosity and compassion continues to touch lives.
As we bid farewell to George, we hold onto the special message he inspired within us: "A life well lived is a life never forgotten." His legacy of love, service, and dedication will forever be etched in our hearts.
