It is with profound sadness and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of George J Gray, who left us peacefully at home on August 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 15, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, George enriched the lives of everyone he met with his generosity, humor, and kindness. George was the beloved son of John and Cecelia Gray, who predeceased him, along with his brother, Bruce Gray. He is survived by his loving wife, Petrina, whom he married on September 23, 1968. Together, they shared nearly 58 years of a life filled with joy, laughter, and an abiding admiration for each other. George's legacy continues through his devoted children, William Leo and Kenneth, and his cherished grandchildren, Joslyn, Damion, Dereck, and Dustin. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill (Kelly), Ann, Keith (Cindy), Brian (Debbie), and Sharon (Dale), brother in-law Billy Ray (Debbie) as well as countless close friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity. A proud graduate of Milford High School, George furthered his education at Oakland Community College, earning over 70 credits through night school. His career at General Motors spanned over 42 years, where he retired as a journeyman millwright. Known for his patience and guidance, George took great care in mentoring young apprentices, always ensuring they retained their dignity. His contributions to improving production efficiency were invaluable, and he was known for completing tasks that others shunned. George was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Refuge Church for 43 years, where he also coached little league baseball, ensuring every line and base was perfectly set. His passion for sports extended to the Oxford Hills Golf Club, where he was a member for over 30 years, and the Troy Old Timers Hockey league, where he proudly earned gold medals in state tournaments. Beyond his professional achievements, George found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid golfer and hockey player, a lover of fast cars, and a fixer of all things mechanical. George traveled extensively, visiting family across the United States, and was always ready with a helping hand, whether it was repairing a lawn mower or finding fish in a pond. George's kindness was boundless. He knew how to lift spirits with a gentle word or a smile, and his compassion was felt by all. From comforting his granddaughter to providing support to his sons and neighbors, George’s generous nature and loving spirit were ever-present. His legacy of kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of George’s giving spirit. George J Gray will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
