In the peaceful embrace of his beloved family and the comforting atmosphere of Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alabama, George Hardy Edwards Sr. departed this life on March 23, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on October 23, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida, George's journey was one painted in vibrant colors, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those he loved and the passions he pursued. George was the cherished son of the late James Hardy and Georgia Mae Edwards and shared a close bond with his brother, the late David Terrell Edwards. He carried their legacy forward with grace and honor throughout his life. Preceding him in death was his beloved son, James Dean Edwards, whose memory remained a beacon of light in George's heart. He is survived by his devoted wife, Detriss "Dee" Edwards, whom he married on a beautiful afternoon on September 18, 2018, in Spanish Fort, AL. Their love was a testament to partnership and enduring commitment. George's legacy lives on through his children, Kimberly A. Partridge, Jessica A. Reid, and George H. Edwards Jr., who were the pride of his life. He was also a beloved grandfather to seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his days. A proud patriot, George served in the US Navy from 1964 to 1966, where he honed his skills in photography—a passion that would guide his professional endeavors. Following his service, he embarked on a career as a photographer with the Mobile Register and later with the US Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in August of 1997. His work captured moments frozen in time, leaving behind a legacy of art and memory. George was a man of many interests, with a love for fishing, water skiing, and target shooting. He cherished every opportunity to travel, explore new horizons, and care for his faithful dog, Bama. His friends and family were his greatest treasures, and he never missed a chance to gather and celebrate life's precious moments. A man with a heart as vast as the ocean, George was active in various Mardi Gras organizations, where his spirit of joy and camaraderie shone brightly. Those who knew George will remember his gentle soul, his steadfast love for his family, and his unwavering faith. His favorite poem, "Footprints in the Sand," echoes the journey he walked, never alone, always carried by the love of his Lord. A celebration of his life will be held on April 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort, located at 34904 State Highway 225. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share in the remembrance of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Baldwin County Humane Society, in honor of George's love for animals. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Community Hospice, Thomas Hospital, and Cason Funeral Services for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time.
