George Groehl

December 24, 1940 — January 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the peaceful passing of George Groehl on January 25, 2026, at the age of 85. George left us from the comfort of his beloved home, surrounded by the enduring love of his family, after courageously battling a rare disease. Born on December 24, 1940, in the quaint town of Medway, George was the cherished son of George Raymond Groehl and Florence Schultz Groehl. He carried the values instilled by his parents throughout his life, radiating warmth and kindness to all who crossed his path. A proud graduate of the Medway High School class of 1958, George embarked on a noble journey of service by enlisting in the US Navy. He served valiantly during the Vietnam War aboard an aircraft carrier, where his dedication to duty and country left an indelible mark on those who served alongside him. George’s professional life was defined by his unwavering commitment and loyalty, demonstrated in his 40-year tenure at Verizon Communications. He was not only a respected colleague but also a friend to many who admired his quick wit, generous spirit, and readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In 1976, George married the love of his life, Carol LeBlanc, with whom he shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, creating a home filled with laughter, joy, and the cherished presence of their three grandchildren, who were the light of George’s life. Outside of work and family, George found solace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener, often found tending to his vibrant blooms with the same care and dedication he offered to his family. Summers were spent joyfully in the pool, where his infectious laughter resonated with family and friends. George leaves behind a legacy of love through his devoted wife Carol, son Todd Groehl, daughter Diana Marie Brush (Groehl) and their cherished grandchildren. In honoring George’s generous nature, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. A private ceremony will be held in accordance with George’s wishes. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice Center of Greater Mooresville for their compassion and unwavering support during George’s final days. George Groehl’s life was a tapestry of love, service, and generosity. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid him farewell, we carry forward his spirit in our hearts, cherishing the memories of a truly remarkable man.
