In Loving Memory

George Duke Jr
June 30, 1934 — March 10, 2026
It is with profound sadness and loving memory that we announce the passing of George Duke Jr, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend to many. George entered eternal rest on March 10, 2026, after facing medical complications with the grace and strength that defined his remarkable life. Born on June 30, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, he lived a life rich in love, perseverance, and community.
George was the son of the late George Duke Sr and Azaliegh Wilson. His early years were marked by resilience; orphaned at the tender age of 13, George embraced responsibility beyond his years. Armed with an entrepreneurial spirit, he became a small business owner by the age of 16, initiating a journey that would span over five decades. His shoe shining service, associated with Lackland Air Force Base, became a cornerstone of his professional life and a testament to his dedication and work ethic.
In 1957, George married the love of his life, Ella Mae Walker. Their union was a shining example of love and partnership until Ella's passing. Later, he was blessed to find love again with Manila Alberts, with whom he shared a tender and enduring bond until her departure. George was predeceased by a vast and loving family: George Duke III, JoyGina Duke, Joyce Duke, Ronald Harris, Cathy Earls, Carolyn Riley, Micheal Walker, Kejon Harris, his sisters Bernice, Marie, Margie, D'etta, Columbia, and brothers Columbus, Onie, and Jethro "Row" Duke. A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also preceded him in death, each leaving an indelible mark on his heart.
George's legacy lives on through his surviving children—three sons and four daughters—who continue to embody his values of love, strength, and unity. His legacy is further enriched by his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who carry forward the lessons of kindness and resilience he imparted.
Beyond his professional achievements, George's true passion lay in the warmth of a family gathering. Known for his love of BBQ, he found joy in bringing people together, sharing stories, laughter, and love. He was a man who valued relationships deeply, always making time for friends and family, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A service to celebrate George's life will be held on March 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1022 Rice Rd. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to join in honoring his memory.
The family of Mr. George Duke Jr wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love and sympathy during this difficult time. Your cards, flowers, calls, visits, and prayers have been a source of comfort and strength. May God bless each and every one of you.
George Duke Jr's life was a tapestry of love, resilience, and community, and though he is no longer with us, his spirit and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
