George Douglass Covington

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Douglass Covington, who left this world peacefully on August 29, 2026, at his assisted living facility in Broomfield, Colorado. Born on September 12, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, George graced us with 98 years of a life well-lived and deeply cherished. George was a son of the late Sandford and Lucile Covington. He was preceded in death by his cherished brother, Doug, affectionately known as Tink Covington, and his beloved son, Scott Covington. He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Charlotte Ann Covington, and their loving children and spouses, Mark and Nancy Covington, Lori Buderus and Amy and Max Klassen. George also leaves behind a legacy of 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his everlasting spirit. His sister, Jean Tabor, also survives him and will forever hold his memory close. A proud alumnus of East High School in Denver, Colorado, George pursued higher education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Teaching. Although his time in the Navy was cut short due to health challenges, this brief service was a testament to his resilience and determination. George's professional journey as a traveling sales associate for Cryenco allowed him to share his knowledge and passion for liquid natural gases with many. However, it was his love for tennis that truly defined him. For over 25 years, George dedicated himself to playing, teaching, coaching, and advocating for the sport. His contributions were recognized when he was inducted into the Colorado Tennis Hall of Fame, a testament to his lasting impact on the tennis community. The Broomfield Swim and Tennis Club honored his dedication by naming court #1 in his honor, ensuring his legacy would endure. Beyond the tennis court, George was a man of many talents and interests. First and foremost, he was an amateur photographer who didn't go anywhere without a camera. As an avid fisherman, he relished the thrill of the catch, whether near or far. His creative spirit found expression in woodworking, metal detecting, welding, writing memoirs, painting and karaoke just to name a few. A family historian and world traveler, George sought to capture the essence of life in all its forms. A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 11, 2026, at 3:30 PM at the Broomfield Community Center, located at 280 Spader Way, Broomfield, CO 80020. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring George's generous spirit. The Covington family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dignity Hospice of Colorado and the dedicated caregivers at Legend of Broomfield, whose support provided comfort during this difficult journey. George Douglass Covington will be remembered for his unwavering love, his boundless enthusiasm for life, and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him. He lives on in the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
