October 12, 1947 — October 6, 2026

George Clayton "Butch" Lawrence, Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on October 6, 2026, with his devoted wife, Marie, by his side. Born on October 12, 1947, at Lakeside Hospital in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Butch lived a life full of love, laughter, and service to others. Butch was the cherished son of George C. Sr. and Lucille Lawrence, both of whom predeceased him, alongside his son, Christopher Lawrence, and sisters, Delores and Gail. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marie, and his son, Keith Lawrence of DeFuniak Springs, FL. His legacy is also carried on by his brother, Rusty Lawrence and wife Mary Beth of Murphysboro, TN; his sisters-in-law, Laurie Truett and Janie Gunter and her husband Bobby of DeFuniak Springs; nieces Emily and Josh Ruesewald of Murphysboro, TN, Candace and Richard Wade of Banks, AL, Shannon and Freddy Currid, and Robin and Shawn Wicker of DeFuniak Springs; and his great-nephews, Dustin, Mason, Landon, Levi, and Colby Wicker of DeFuniak Springs, FL. After graduating from Walton High School in 1965, where he played football, Butch honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. During his service, he was recognized with several commendations, including the Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Butch built a successful career in retail sales, where he held various management positions with Showell Farms before transitioning to real estate sales, where he ended his professional journey. A man of deep faith, Butch was a Christian who attended Darlington Community Church, where he shared his love for music by playing the guitar and singing. His hobbies also included reading and playing golf, but perhaps his most treasured gift was his ability to make those around him feel welcome and valued. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, he was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. A celebration of Butch’s life will be held at the Davis-Watkins Chapel. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory. They would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Chautauqua Rehab Center for their compassionate care in his final days. Though he will be deeply missed, Butch leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
