It is with deep sorrow, yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of George Carter III, who departed peacefully at his home on July 11, 2026. Born on April 14, 1953, in the heart of Greenville, Mississippi, George was a beacon of light, love, and laughter to all who knew him. George was the cherished son of the late George Carter and Jessie Lee Bailey, who instilled in him the values of hard work and kindness. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, his brothers Earnest Sr. and Roosevelt Carter, his sister Tina L. Carter and his devoted second wife, Meola Smith Carter, with whom he shared 20 blissful years of marriage. George's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of family, friends, and faith. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Rosalind Carter/Winston (Sciago) of Memphis, Louise Moore and George Moore of Topeka, Kansas, Kenyatta Nellum (Gary) and Crystal Williams (John) of Greenville, Mississippi, and Evelyn Comer (Otis) of Florida. His siblings include Thomas Carter of California, Patricia Carter Fitzpatrick of St. Louis, Missouri, Micheal Carter Sr. (Estrella) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carl Carter, George Carter (Rachel), Marvin Carter, Ezekiel Carter (Naomi), Kevin Carter, Jean Jackson (Isaiah), Gearldine Moore, Joyce Melvin, Mary Payton, and Patricia Howard of Peoria, Illinois, and Gail Kirby (Chris) of San Antonio, Texas. George's legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren, Stephonn Winston, Samiya Winston, RaShawn Winston of Memphis, Tennessee, Nehemiah Moore of Topeka, Kansas, and Khloe, Jayce, and Kailee Williams of Greenville, Mississippi. A proud member of the class of 1971, George carried the spirit of the Delta with him wherever he went. His career was a testament to his dedication and strength, working faithfully at Platte Chemical Company in Greenville, Crawfish Landing, and as a security guard at Uncle Ben’s Rice. He also drove tractors for companies like Smith’s Farmland, embracing each job with a sense of purpose and commitment. His work was his ministry, and he honored the Lord with the strength of his hands. George was a man of many passions. He found joy on the basketball courts of the YMCA, where he played with the local basketball club, forging friendships and memories. After moving to Memphis, he became a proud member of the JUSTICE Family, contributing to community projects with enthusiasm and heart. He was also a cherished member of the Sunrise M.B. Church of Greenville, Ms, where his faith was a guiding light. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, George had a gift for bringing joy to others. His humor was legendary, and his kindness knew no bounds. Whether he was supporting his oldest daughter's arts and crafts business or sharing a joke to lighten the mood, George was unforgettable. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Joyce Greene, Kaylin Coleman, the Winston family, Jefferson Mortuary staff, and Noah Chapel AME Church for their compassionate care during this time.
