January 3, 1939 – June 24, 2026
With a deep sense of loss, we announce the passing of George C. Lenz, Jr., who departed this world peacefully on June 24, 2026, after a courageous 9-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. George was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 3, 1939 to George Sr. and Elsie Lenz. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and his first wife, Ann Lenz.
George leaves behind his devoted wife of 17 years, Patricia A. Lenz, who stood by his side with unwavering love and support. Together, they forged a bond that was a source of great joy and companionship. They particularly loved traveling with friends to places like Israel and watching sports together! George was a proud father to Susan (Jeff) Reese, Jeffrey (Debbie) Lenz, Lorrie Williams, Karen Lenz, and a stepson, Shawn E. Hunt. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Drew Williams, Jordan Lenz, Amy Jones, Brittany Williams, Braden Lenz, and Mason Lenz, and his great-grandchildren, Violet, Jack, Luna, Layla, Wesley, Benjamin, and two on the way.
Educated at North Central High School in Indianapolis, IN and Purdue University, George dedicated his professional life to General Motors, where he made significant contributions over the years. His journey through life was enriched by his faith, which he practiced in the various communities he called home. Most recently, he found spiritual fulfillment at First Free Rockford, where he was an active attendee.
George’s love for Lake James in Angola, Indiana, was both enduring and infectious. From his birth, the lake became a sanctuary for him and five generations of the Lenz family. His passion for collecting — from lures to collectible NASCAR cars, coins and bills, and especially his adored Chris-Craft boats — was well-known and celebrated by those who knew him. The restoration of these boats was not just a hobby but a cherished tradition he shared with family and friends.
A man with a zest for life, George found joy in the simple pleasures such as playing cards and board games, golf, bocce ball and shuffleboard. His laughter and competitiveness during these games will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of joining in. His hospitality was legendary, as he and Patricia opened their home to countless church-sponsored community groups, spreading warmth and fellowship in every place they resided, from Angola to The Villages, Florida, and most recently, the Rockford area.
In honor of George's life, a memorial service will be held on July 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at First Free Rockford, located at 2223 N Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61107. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The George C. Lenz Jr. Memorial Fund at First Free Church, which can be made online at firstfreerockford.org/give.
The Lenz family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Serenity House Hospice in Oregon, Illinois, for their compassionate care during George's final days. George was comforted by his favorite scripture, Psalm 23. The Lenz family finds solace in the knowledge that George is with his Heavenly Father,
