Geoffrey Rodger Ireland, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on August 28, 2026, at Northside Gwinnett Hospital following a brief illness resulting from a serious fall. Geoff was born on August 6, 1940, in Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, to the late U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Leslie R. Ireland and Jeanette Crowley Ireland. He was 86 years old. Geoff was a remarkable man whose life was filled with love, dedication, and a profound commitment to family and community. He was predeceased by his cherished parents, his beloved brother, Leslie R. Ireland, Jr., and sister-in-law, Hazel Ireland. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Connie Ireland, with whom he shared an incredible marriage that began on October 13, 1990, in Evansville, Indiana. Together, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Leslie Ireland Boles, and her husband, James D. Boles, who joined the family in 2017. Geoff's journey through life was marked by a passion for learning and a dedication to service. He attended school in Louisville, Kentucky, and earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisville in 1963. His thirst for knowledge led him to obtain an M.B.A. from the University of Evansville in 1982 while serving as a plant manager with Kraft General Foods in Chicago, Illinois, and Evansville, Indiana. A proud veteran, Geoff served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years, achieving the rank of lieutenant before receiving an honorable discharge. His professional career was equally distinguished, characterized by a deep respect for his colleagues and a commitment to mentoring and supporting others. Geoff was known for his humility and often insisted that the employee of the month use his designated parking spot, exemplifying his belief in shared success and teamwork. Geoff's contributions extended beyond his career. As a fifty-year member of the Masonic Grand Lodge in Louisville, Kentucky, he held his "50 Year Gold" card with pride. An Eagle Scout, he encouraged young scouts to strive for this honor. His competitive spirit shone through his swimming achievements, both as a certified instructor and a member of the University of Louisville's swim team. Geoff's passion for learning and community service was evident in his role as a licensed Professional Engineer and member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. While managing the Borden plant in Lowell, Massachusetts, he established English as a second language and G.E.D classes, earning the 1996 Massachusetts State Business/Labor Adult Education award. In his personal life, Geoff was an avid reader, compiling a list of novels he read, and enjoyed racket sports such as squash, handball, and racquetball. His creative flair extended to the kitchen, where his cheesecakes were renowned. Geoff also loved traveling with his family to places like Spain, Grand Cayman, Hawaii, Aruba, and Mexico, with Hilton Head being a favorite retreat. Geoff's family and friends remember him as a brilliant, caring individual with a love for life and a penchant for dad jokes. His legacy is one of love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to those around him. A service to celebrate Geoff's life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Tom Wages Funeral Home, located at 3705 US-78, Snellville, GA 30039. In lieu of flowers, donations in Geoff's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Connie and Leslie extend heartfelt gratitude to neighbors, friends, and the dedicated I.C.U. staff at Northside Gwinnett Hospital. They also express appreciation to the Gwinnett County Fire and Rescue for their prompt and compassionate assistance. Although they mourn the loss of a wonderful man, they find solace in the peace he has found, cherishing the moments they shared with him.
