Geneva Mae Powell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away at home on August 13, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on July 21, 1931, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Geneva was the cherished daughter of John and Hazel Browning. She was a beacon of love and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Geneva grew up in St. Joseph, where she attended primary and high school, forging friendships and values that would last a lifetime. Her life was a testament to the devotion and care she poured into her family and community. For many years, Geneva worked diligently and with great pride as a housekeeper, dedicating herself to her profession with grace and commitment. On a warm summer day, Geneva married the love of her life, Paul Powell, with whom she shared an extraordinary 69-year-long partnership. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising six wonderful children: Vonna, Michael, Janet, Paul III, Debora, and Kathleen. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren—Michael, Jr., Leilani, Myesha, Chante, and Darren—who were the light of her life. Geneva found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was renowned for her culinary skills, often gathering her family around the table to share delicious meals seasoned with love. Her laughter would fill the room as she enjoyed her favorite TV shows, particularly The Golden Girls, Judge Judy, and The Price is Right. Her warmth and sense of humor were magnetic, drawing friends and family close to her heart. Geneva's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Kaiser for their kindness and compassion during these final months. Their support brought comfort to Geneva and her family during a challenging time. A celebration of Geneva's life will be held on August 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Diablo Valley Funeral Home, located at 1390 Monument Blvd, Concord, CA. The family invites all who knew and loved Geneva to join them in remembering her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Geneva's memory to a charity of your choice, continuing her spirit of generosity and kindness.
