Geneva Herring

Geneva Herring, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on July 31, 2026. Born on October 18, 1948, in the serene landscapes of North Carolina, Geneva lived a life filled with love, music, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Geneva was the cherished daughter of Ina and Russell Johnson, who preceded her in death along with her siblings. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Jesse Wayne Herring, affectionately known as "Babe," with whom she shared a beautiful journey raising three children. Later in life, she found love again with Claude "Tim" Winebarger, and together they dedicated themselves to caring for her disabled son, Kris, until Tim's passing. A woman of extraordinary strength and compassion, Geneva was a full-time caregiver for her son Kris, a role she embraced with unmatched dedication and trust. Her love for her family extended far beyond her immediate circle, as she was always there to lend a helping hand to her children, Jesse Herring (Christy), Jennifer Wood (Ronnie), and Kris Herring, whenever they needed her. Her legacy lives on through her nine grandchildren—Zachary Wood, Rebekah Wood, Jacob Wood, Chelsey Herring, Brandon Herring, Carrie Schwehr, Caitlin Dansby, Casie Dansby, and Chris Dansby—and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply. Geneva's heart was as vast as her love for music. A talented musician, she found joy in playing the piano and was particularly fond of bluegrass melodies. Her quick wit and love for humor brought smiles to those around her, and her presence brightened every room she entered. As a devoted member of Living by Faith Baptist Church, Geneva's faith was central to her life. She enjoyed playing the piano during services, printing bulletins, and generously providing rides to fellow congregants. Her church family was an integral part of her life, and she cherished the bonds she formed within this community. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the members of Living by Faith Baptist Church and Cornerstone Baptist Church for their unwavering support and kindness. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
