Gene Solyntjes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gene Solyntjes, who departed this world peacefully on September 21, 2026, due to complications of a stroke. Born on May 4, 1943, in Blythe, California, Gene was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him. Gene was the cherished son of Mary and Herman Solyntjes, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Bruce Johnson and Capt. David Bolka, his mother and father-in-law, Vieno and Lincoln Miles, and his dear friends, George Schimmele, Gene Altiere, and Bill Tellijohn. Gene started his working career as a high-structural iron worker until a serious accident caused him to retire from that pursuit and return to college, receiving his Bachelor's degree from Mankato State University. He then attended post-graduate studies and became a Certified Orthotics Practioner, on the staff of the Seattle VA Hospital for 14 years. Linda and Gene moved to Seattle when Gene retired. An avid bow hunter, fisherman, woodworker, and gardener, Gene embraced life with enthusiasm and passion. His love for travel took him across many European countries as a dedicated "groupie" alongside Linda's choir from Seattle, where he supported their Music Ministry Abroad. Gene's friendships spanned Minnesota, Seattle, and Las Vegas (New Mexico), and he was known for maintaining these connections for many years. . A service to honor Gene's life will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato, MN. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs at Christus St Vincent in Santa Fe, La Vida Buena in Las Vegas, and the caring team from An Voi Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Gene's final days. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Gene's memory may consider a donation to a charity of their choice. Gene's legacy of kindness, friendship, and love will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
