Gene Sjoberg

Gene Sjoberg, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 14, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on January 26, 1938, in the town of Coulee Dam, Washington, Gene was the beloved son of Elmer Sjoberg and Ethel Grace Miller. He joins his parents and his siblings Marlin, Gary, and Virginia, who have predeceased him, in eternal peace. Gene led a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering love for his family. His journey began in the Air Force, where he served for two years before committing two decades to the Navy. Retiring with the distinguished rank of AMSC Chief Petty Officer, Gene was a man of honor and bravery. His service was acknowledged with several medals and a notable letter of accommodation from President Nixon for his pivotal role in averting a crisis incident, a testament to his courage and quick thinking. Beyond his military career, Gene found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, activities that brought him peace and connection with nature. These hobbies were not just pastimes but a reflection of his adventurous spirit and appreciation for the world around him. Gene is survived by his wife, Lynne, and his three daughters, Janet Downs (Daniel), Darla McNulty, and Kimberly Bui (Billy). He was the proud grandfather to Angela (Tyler), Elaina, Christian (Cassie), Jake (Stephanie), Sandy, and Jenny, and a great-grandfather to Maximus, Judah, Eleanor, Samson, Hazel, Hayden, and Willow. His family was his greatest treasure, and his love and wisdom will continue to guide them. A service to honor and celebrate Gene's life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Church, located at 37180 Gore Drive, Lebanon, OR 97355. The family takes comfort in knowing that Gene is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Gene Sjoberg's life was a testament to service, love, and adventure. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. On July 5th this year he celebrated 49 years of sobriety. He has been a sponsor to many in the program. He was very humble and gave God all the glory for his success.
