Gene L. Hansohn, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 31, 1936, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Gene lived a life filled with love, dedication, and quiet joy. The son of Louie and Thyra (Seglem) Hansohm, Gene cherished the values and lessons imparted by his parents. Throughout his life, he carried their teachings of kindness and resilience, and he was predeceased by them and his long-time companion, Opal Dement, whom he dearly missed. Gene's heart and home were always open to his family. He is survived by his loving daughter, Cindy Duplex, who was a source of immense pride and joy. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Katrina (Cody) Juttelstad and Jennifer (Don) Collins, and his great-grandchildren, Victorya (Tyler) Pierce, Isiah, Eli, and Amelia Heisinger. Gene's circle of love extended to his dear friend Effie Feltrop, who was like a granddaughter to him, and Creedence, Xavier, and TJ, whom he regarded as great-grandchildren. A proud veteran, Gene served his country with honor in the Army National Guard. His commitment to service and community was evident throughout his career, where he worked for many years at Sunshine Foods and Franklin Food Market. He concluded his professional journey with a well-deserved retirement after 17 years at Menards, where he was admired for his dedication and work ethic. Outside of work, Gene found joy and relaxation in the comfort of his home. He was an enthusiastic fan of wrestling matches, often losing himself in the excitement of the sport. He also enjoyed the quiet challenge of match-3 games on his tablet, a pastime that brought him much contentment. Gene's life will be celebrated on October 16, 2026, at 3:00 PM, with a service held at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery, located at 25965 477th Avenue, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Family and friends will gather to honor the incredible life he led and the love he shared with all who knew him. Gene L. Hansohn will be remembered for his warmth, his unwavering love for his family, and his enduring friendships.
