It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Gene F. Brown, who slipped away peacefully on June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on October 11, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, Gene was a beacon of warmth, humor, and kindness, who left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
The beloved son of the late Johnny Brown and Sylvia B. Boulware, Gene was a cherished soul, always ready with a quick wit and a warm smile. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his dear friend Elaine Taylor. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving partner, Cynthia Gist, who was by his side through life’s many journeys.
Gene’s life was a testament to the power of love and laughter. He was a devoted member of Zion Baptist Church for over 30 years, where he found community and purpose. His fellow congregants will fondly remember his role in many of the church’s activities, always eager to lend a helping hand and a joke to lighten the mood.
Traveling was one of Gene's greatest joys, and he cherished every opportunity to explore new places, always returning with stories that captivated and inspired. Yet, above all, it was the time spent with family that he held closest to his heart. He shared a special bond with Ricardo (Ricky) McIntosh and his wife, Cleo Ranette McIntosh, who loved him dearly. Gene's brother, Ronald Allen McIntosh, and nieces Sonja, Danielle, and Chambree McIntosh, will always remember "Uncle Gene" as the uncle who made them laugh, felt understood, and knew they were loved.
Gene had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, a testament to his boundless generosity and kindness. His ability to brighten any room and lift any spirit was unmatched, and his legacy of love will continue to burn brightly in the lives of those he touched.
A celebration of Gene F. Brown’s life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Zion Baptist Church, located at 801 Washington Street, Columbia, SC 29203. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring this remarkable man and sharing in the joy and warmth that Gene brought to all our lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Zion Baptist Church in Gene’s memory, ensuring that his spirit of kindness and community continues to thrive.
As we say goodbye to Gene, let us remember him not with tears, but with the laughter and joy that he so freely gave to us all. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
