Gayle Gilpin Williford

It is with a profound sense of sorrow and yet a celebration of a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Gayle, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on September 12, 1942, in Houston, Texas, Gayle was a shining light, bringing joy and love to everyone she encountered. She peacefully departed this world on July 31, 2026, and into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. Gayle's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, talent, and an indomitable spirit. She was the cherished daughter of Allen Wesley Gilpin, Sr. and Dorothy Sevier Price Gilpin, who predeceased her alongside her younger brother, George Winston Gilpin, and her beloved husband of nearly a decade, Gary Murl Williford. A proud alumna of Reagan High School in the Houston Heights, Gayle left an indelible mark by founding the co-ed pep squad, the Bulldog Barkers. Her academic journey continued at the University of Texas in Austin and Sam Houston State University, where she enriched her love for the fine arts. Gayle's career was as diverse as it was distinguished. Known for her excellence as an executive assistant across various industries, she also blossomed as a fine artist. Her incredible talent in dry media, particularly Conté, propelled her to become a Licensed Interior Designer, earning respect and admiration in the industry. Her affiliation with the Texas State Board of Architecture and the American Society of Interior Designers was a testament to her skill and dedication. Gayle's flair for design and color made her a cherished member of Ethan Allen’s Circle of Excellence, where she forged lifelong friendships. In 2012, she and her beloved husband, Gary, obtained a patent in oilfield technology and had a successful business. In her youth, Gayle's musical talents shone brightly as she sang with the Del Rios, a girl group reminiscent of The Shirelles. Known as “the girl who wore the red shoes,” she graced the Paul Berlin Show, leaving audiences enchanted with her voice. Her membership in Second Baptist Church of Houston, TX, from 1986 onward, defined her as a devoted and active member. She faithfully contributed to her Sunday School classes at the Woodway campus and was a pillar of support in the sobriety community. Gayle dedicated herself to service as a board member of A Place for Peanut Equine Rescue for a decade and held membership with the NSDAR’s Tejas Chapter in Houston. Gayle's life was adorned with a love for dance, having taught tap dancing in the late 1960s, and a passion for languages. She was fluent in English and conversed in French and Spanish, often delighting in diagramming sentences for fun. Her home was a haven of beauty, continually updated with her artistic touch. Her family—daughters Paige Stevens Holsapple (Randy) and Megan Stevens Cardet; granddaughters Haley Allyn Holsapple and Hanna Kathryne Aviles (Dr. Abraham); and great-grandson Weston Graham Aviles—will forever cherish the joyous memories and whimsical spirit she imparted. Gayle is also survived by her elder brother Wes Gilpin (Susan), and an extended family who adored her deeply. A celebration of Gayle's life will be held on September 12, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Second Baptist Church - West Campus - The Williams House, located at 19449 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77094. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Gayle's memory to A Place For Peanut, an organization close to her heart. Please wear bright, beautiful colors! The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who lovingly cared for Gayle, enriching her life with gentleness and devotion. As we remember Gayle, we find comfort in the words of John 14:2-3, knowing she is now in the many rooms of her Father’s house, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and enveloped in eternal peace and the fullness of joy in Jesus.
