It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary W. DeRoo, a cherished soul who graced this world with his kindness and unwavering spirit. Gary departed from this life peacefully on June 12, 2026, at Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, Florida, surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was 86 years old.
Gary was born on July 11, 1939, in the vibrant city of Rochester, New York, to the late Norman L. DeRoo and Pearl V. DeRoo (Robinson). From a young age, Gary exemplified the values of dedication, compassion, and integrity that would become the cornerstones of his remarkable life.
In 1957, Gary answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army. He honorably served on active duty until 1960 and continued his commitment to duty in the United States Army Reserves until 1963, when he received an honorable discharge. His service to his nation was a testament to his selflessness and bravery, traits that were evident in every facet of his life.
Gary was predeceased by his loving parents, Norman and Pearl DeRoo, and his brother, Norman DeRoo. Although these losses were deeply felt, Gary found solace and strength in the enduring bonds of family and friendship that he fostered throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Norene DeRoo, who stood by his side through life's joys and challenges. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and unwavering support.
Gary is also survived by his cherished nieces, Dawn Carey (DeRoo), Kristen DeRoo, Kathy Schwartz, and Deborah Gladue, and his nephew, Dan DeRoo. Each of them carries forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. His extended family, including cousins and close friends, will forever remember Gary for his generosity and the warmth of his spirit.
Gary's life was a rich tapestry woven with the threads of love, family, and service. He touched the hearts of many with his gentle humor and compassionate nature. His presence was a beacon of light to those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we mourn the loss of Gary, we also celebrate the beautiful life he led and the indelible mark he left on all who crossed his path. In honoring his memory, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness, service, and love.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Gary's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gary's name to Cornerstone Hospice, whose compassionate care provided comfort in his final days.
Gary W. DeRoo will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving uncle, a faithful friend, and a proud patriot. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
