He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Marilyn Virginia Odum; his paternal grandparents, William and Iolar Farmer; his first wife, Trish Ann Hubbard; and his son, Austin Vann Zachary (Farmer). He leaves behind his stepmother, Sandra Farmer; his sister, Michelle Farmer; his brothers, Alex (Ashleigh) Farmer and Timmy (Darian) Farmer; his former wife, Megan Inman Wright; and his children, Christian Paul Lay, Brittany Marie Farmer, McKenzie Ann (Brook) Smith, Tessa Leigh Farmer, Kaelyn Virginia Farmer, and Gary Paul Farmer Jr. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Lillian Lay; his nieces and nephews, Nathaniel (Raven) and Gracie Haralson, Elleigh and Hardy Thomas, Aubreigh Farmer, and Maeve Farmer; as well as his great-nephews, Khyler and Frankie Haralson. Among those mourning his loss is his lifelong friend and brother by heart, Scott Stoltz. Gary was a second-generation tree climber by trade and a certified, licensed arborist who took immense pride in his work. His skill, dedication, and work ethic were respected by all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond his profession, Gary also served as a volunteer firefighter in Midtown, Tennessee, reflecting his lifelong willingness to help others and serve his community. Known for his playful spirit and larger-than-life personality, Gary loved spending time with family and friends and found joy in life’s simplest moments. He was a stubborn man with a strong heart who battled his inner demons daily, yet loved deeply and fiercely. He was loyal, compassionate, and never quick to judge others. No matter the circumstance, Gary was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Gary’s passing leaves a void that can never truly be filled, but the memories, laughter, and love he shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest peacefully, Gary. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
