In Loving Memory

Gary Earl Wigert
January 10, 1941 — June 1, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Gary Earl Wigert on June 1, 2026, at the age of 85. Gary slipped away peacefully at home, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Gary was born on January 10, 1941, in the spirited town of Anaconda, Montana, to Earl Gustaf Wigert and Helen Mary (Tucker) Wigert. He grew up in a family that instilled in him a strong work ethic, a love for the outdoors, and an unyielding sense of humor. His childhood in Anaconda was filled with adventure, especially when trapping with his good friend, Stan Glovan.
After graduating from Anaconda High School, Gary proudly served his country in the Army. Following his service, he embarked on a fulfilling career with the Anaconda Company and later at the Montana State Prison. His commitment to his work was surpassed only by his dedication to his family and community.
In his youth, Gary met and fell head over heels for Janis Lynn Greenup. The two were inseparable, and together they built a beautiful life, sharing 51 wonderful years of marriage. They raised four remarkable sons: Howard, Danny, Shawn, and Ben, instilling in them the values of integrity, hard work, and laughter.
Gary's passions were as varied as they were vibrant. A member of the Butte Rock Club, he was an avid rock and coin collector, often finding solace and excitement in the treasures of the earth. His love for fishing and camping allowed him to share countless adventures with family and friends in the great outdoors. A loyal fan of the Seattle Mariners and Denver Broncos, Gary's quick wit and humor made him the life of every game-day gathering.
Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife Janis, his parents Earl and Helen, his sister Peggy (Wigert) McEwen, and his sons Ben, Shawn, and Dan. His legacy continues through his son Howard and daughter-in-law Roxanne (Arneson), daughter-in-law Michele Wigert, his grandchildren Brock Wigert, Michael Wigert, Bryce Wigert, Brittney (Wigert) Cahoon, and Shelby Wigert, and great-grandchildren Lilly Wigert and Derrick Wilson. Each carries forward his spirit of kindness, humor, and resilience.
In honor of Gary's memory, the family invites donations to be made to the Hope Lodge in Salt Lake City, UT, a place close to his heart. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his caregiver, Ailee, whose compassionate care brought comfort to Gary in his final days.
As we say goodbye, we hold Gary's memory in our hearts, cherishing the lessons he imparted and the love he freely gave. May he rest in peace, forever remembered with a smile.
