Born in the vibrant city of Houston, Texas, on August 27, 1939, Garry lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family, friends, and community. Garry was a beacon of light, known for his light humor and striking good looks, but more importantly, for his incredible ability to make everyone feel at home and loved. He was the beloved husband of the late Annette Pruitt, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with two devoted children, Desmond and John. Garry's legacy continues through his two cherished grandchildren, who remember fondly the life skills he imparted during their woodworking Wednesdays in his garage. A proud graduate of Jack Yates Colored High School in 1957, Garry pursued his passion for education, earning a bachelor's degree in Industrial Education in 1962. This knowledge laid the foundation for an illustrious career as a mechanic. Garry's love for cars was unparalleled, and he spent countless hours working on them, eventually managing his own shop in the late 1980s. His dedication and hard work left an indelible mark on the community, and the shop now stands as a testament to his legacy, carried on by his late son, John. Garry was not only a master of mechanics but also an avid fisherman, never missing a Sunday morning out on the lake, where he found peace and joy in nature's embrace. His passion for woodworking and fishing inspired many, creating memories that will be cherished by all who knew him. Garry is predeceased by his loving parents, James and Grace Pruitt and his beloved wife, Annette Pruitt. He leaves behind a family who will forever hold him in their hearts, including his children Desmond and John andhis older brother Thomas, and his dear friends who stood by him throughout his life. A service to celebrate Garry's life will be held on July 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at San Jacinto Memorial Park, located at 14659 East Fwy, Houston, TX, 77015. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all those who can join them in honoring Garry's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Garry's memory to a charity of choice. May Garry Pruitt rest in peace, his spirit forever guiding those he loved and touched with his kindness and warmth.
