Garry Phillip Johnson

August 14, 1957 — September 6, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garry Phillip Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on September 6, 2026. Born on August 14, 1957, in Charlotte, NC, Garry was the cherished son of the late Bill and Mildred Johnson. Garry's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his passions. Garry was a proud graduate of Grainger High School, class of 1975. It was during these formative years that he nurtured his love for music—a love that would accompany him throughout his life. A self-taught musician, Garry mastered the piano and guitar, crafting melodies that resonated with the country and classic rock genres he adored. On June 4, 1983, Garry married the love of his life, Brenda Johnson. Together, they shared 43 years of steadfast devotion, raising two beautiful daughters, Angel Moore and Ashley Alexander. Garry's legacy is lovingly carried forth by his wife Brenda, his daughters, and his treasured grandchildren—Olivia Moore, Emily Moore, Cameron Schmidt, and Madison Schmidt. His brothers, Roger and Billy, and sisters, Becki and Frankie, will also deeply feel his absence. Known affectionately as the "Mayor of Matheson Avenue," Garry's caring nature and selfless spirit endeared him to his neighbors, whom he regularly checked on to ensure their well-being. Whether offering a helping hand or a listening ear, Garry's generosity knew no bounds—it was simply in his nature to give, even if it meant giving his last dollar. In memory of Garry's giving heart, the family suggests donations be made to Samaritan's Purse, a cause close to his heart. A special note of gratitude is extended to the remarkable staff of Carolina Caring, whose attentive care and support provided great comfort to Garry and his family during his final days. Garry Phillip Johnson's life was a testament to kindness, love, and music. His legacy will forever sing in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
