He is survived by his mother, Loretta, and siblings, James Merrell (Lisa), niece Rose Merrell, Guinn Merrell, and Della Bates (Mark). His loving wife, Patty Merrell, whom he married on October 12, 1996, on their family farm in Reliance, Tennessee, shared 30 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Trainer Merrell (Tessa) and Chelsea Merrell Johnson (Bryson), who were the pride and joy of Garrett's life.
A proud graduate of Polk County High School in 1991, Garrett went on to work as a water treatment specialist and carpenter. His colleagues and clients held him in high regard, and his legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Garrett's passions were as vast as his heart. An avid fisherman and hunter, he was also a checkers master who never turned down a game. He cherished his time in the great outdoors, whether hiking in the woods with his daughter, Chelsea, or working on project trucks with his son, Trainer. Family camping trips to Lost Creek Campground were among his favorite experiences, and his spirit of adventure and love for nature were infectious.
