Garnette smith
July 17, 1949 — May 26, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Garnette Smith, a beloved father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Craigsville, West Virginia community. Garnette departed this world peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on May 26, 2026, at the age of 76.
Born on July 17, 1949, in Craigsville, Garnette was the cherished son of Nannie and Leslie Smith. From a young age, he exhibited a strong work ethic and a keen interest in understanding how things work, which would later define his professional life. Garnette dedicated 30 years of his life to working as an electrician and lineman, where his skill and dedication illuminated the lives of many, both literally and figuratively. His colleagues remember him not only for his expertise but also for his unwavering integrity and the camaraderie he brought to the workplace.
Garnette was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Brenda Smith, whose memory he cherished deeply. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and warmth, setting a foundation of love and resilience for their family.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Leslie Green; his sons, Adam Shawn Green and Harold Richie Green; and his two precious granddaughters, Briell Green and Katlyn Green, who were his pride and joy. Garnette found immense pleasure in watching his granddaughters grow, always eager to share stories of their latest accomplishments with anyone willing to listen.
A man of simplicity and sincerity, Garnette found joy in the small things—whether it was a quiet afternoon fishing by the river, a well-spent Sunday watching football, or the satisfaction of repairing something with his own hands. His life was a testament to the beauty of humility and grace, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. Garnette's life will be celebrated at a service on June 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Whites Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and to share in the stories and memories that Garnette leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the local community center in Craigsville, a place that held a special place in Garnette's heart and where he volunteered many hours to ensure its upkeep for future generations.
Garnette Smith's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and kindness. He will be remembered fondly and missed dearly, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Brenda, and may his memory continue to shine brightly in the lives of those he leaves behind.
