Gail Marie Dalpra

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail Marie Dalpra, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on August 18, 2026, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on September 13, 1941, in Iron Mountain, MI, Gail was a beacon of love, humor, and grace throughout her life. Gail was the cherished daughter of Roy and Evelyn (Raben) Friestrom. Her early years in Crystal Falls, MI, were marked by a deep connection to her community and family. She graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1959, embarking on a life journey that would touch countless lives. For 25 years, Gail dedicated herself to the Iron County Soil and Conservation District, where her passion for the environment flourished. Her career continued with ten years at the Department of Health and Human Services in Charlevoix and Emmet County. Even in retirement, Gail continued to serve her community at the Crystal Falls Golf Course, the America Assisted Living House in Charlevoix, and returned to the Iron Conservation District. Gail's life was enriched by her dedication to fostering children alongside her former husband—an effort that earned them recognition for the many young lives they nurtured and helped. Her warmth and generosity made her home a place of comfort and love for all who entered. Gail was predeceased by her beloved son, Timothy Erick; her former husband, Robert B. Dalpra; her son-in-law, Michael Hand; her special foster granddaughter, Nicole Maenpaa; and her brother-in-law, Ray Palmer. She is survived by her children, Robert (Mary) Dalpra and Jennifer Hand, of Crystal Falls, and her loving grandchildren, Connor and Christopher Dalpra, and Caden and Jason Hand. She also leaves behind her siblings, Gary Friestrom and Betty Palmer, who shared in her love for family and community, foster son Larry Maenpaa and his daughter Samantha ( Lance) Ostert and their children. Also, a very special and dear family member in Victor (Sylvia) Nilo, who came into the family as a foreign exchange student and nieces and nephew A woman of many talents, Gail was a fabulous piano player, often entertaining with her siblings at local supper clubs. Her musical gift even took her to Woodstock, (I) , where her performances were met with admiration and sing along's. She inspired many and went on to produce her own musical production of her favorite love songs, Intimate Moments. Gail's quick wit and humor were legendary, and she was an avid card player, especially enjoying poker games with family and friends. Gail's love for her community was evident in her contributions as a poof reader for the hometown newspaper, the Diamond Drill and serving on the Crystal Falls Centennial Committee where she shared editor duties in the publication of a Collection of Recollections. Her passion for politics, both local and national, was a testament to her vibrant spirit and curiosity about the world. Gail will be remembered for her ability to get along with everyone, her infectious laughter, and her unwavering love for her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She welcomed everyone with open arms, always ready to listen and share in heartfelt conversations. The family invites those wishing to offer condolences and memories to a visitation at the United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls from 9:00 - 11:00 on Saturday September 12th with a service celebrating Gail's life to begin at 11:00. Interment in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery will be held at a later date. Gail Marie Dalpra's legacy of love, laughter, and community spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories and a profound impact on the lives she touched.
