Gail Mae McDowell, a beloved mother, sister, partner, and friend, peacefully departed this world on September 5, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of her home and the love of her family in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Born on May 2, 1944, in the picturesque town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Gail was a beacon of warmth and joy whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. The cherished daughter of Howard and Laura Rankin, Gail was blessed with a loving upbringing that she carried forward to her own family. She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Roy McDowell, and her dear parents, Howard and Laura. Gail leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by her children—Mari Kemmer and her husband Bill from Okay, Oklahoma; Lester Johnson and his wife Missy from Cleveland, Tennessee; David Johnson from Wisconsin; and Tammy Schroeder from Muskogee, Oklahoma. She also leaves her beloved sister, Judie Zamitalo, and her cherished partner, Don Strayhorn, both of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Her legacy further lives on in her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply. Gail's life was enriched by her pursuit of knowledge; she completed high school and pursued three years of college education. Her professional journey led her to share her culinary talents as a cook in various restaurants, where she crafted meals with love and care, bringing people together over shared tables and laughter. Beyond her professional life, Gail was a woman of varied interests and passions. She delighted in the simple joys of life, such as spending quality time with her family and friends. Her adventurous spirit found joy in camping trips and the thrilling excitement of casino visits. A devoted fan of wrestling, Gail's enthusiasm was infectious, and her laughter was a melody that brought smiles to those around her. She embraced life with open arms and lived each day to its fullest. In the words of her family, "The world is a little darker place without Gail in it, but we know we will meet again." Gail's enduring spirit and love will continue to light the way for those she leaves behind, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart well-loved.
