In Loving Memory of Gail Ellison July 4, 1940 - April 6, 2026 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gail Ellison, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, on April 6, 2026. Gail departed this world peacefully in the presence of her loved ones after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 85 years old. Born on a day of celebration, July 4, 1940, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan, Gail was a beacon of light and resilience from the very start. She was the cherished daughter of Richard and Marie (Merila) Hatch. Gail's early years were filled with the warmth of family and the bustling energy of Detroit, where she formed lasting memories and friendships during her time at Redford High School, graduating in 1958. Gail's life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an abundance of creativity. She was a woman of many talents, with a passion for painting and jewelry making. Her hands crafted beauty, and her heart shared it generously with those around her. Her shopping trips were legendary among her friends and family, often resulting in thoughtful gifts that perfectly suited their recipients. Gail's journey was marked by her strength and tenacity as she raised her three children, Gregg (Dawn), Scott (Katherine), and Karen (Curt Dame), with unwavering love and devotion. Her direct wit and generous spirit touched everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. In 1982, Gail found love anew when she married Michael Ellison on a crisp November day in Plymouth, Michigan. Their 39-year union was filled with joy, adventures, and the shared love of their growing family. Together, they welcomed the laughter and warmth of 11 grandchildren: Darcy McBroom, Darren Blach, Tiffany Updike, Tony Updike, Brandon Updike, Stephen Updike, Jordan Updike, Ryan Updike, Amelia Dame, and Mitchell Dame. Gail also cherished her great-grandchild, Emma Rose, who brought a sparkle to her eyes. Gail is now reunited in peace with her beloved husband Michael, her parents Richard and Marie, her sister Sharon (Hatch) Durham, and her granddaughter Alexandra Updike. Her legacy lives on through her surviving family: her children, her brother Thomas Hatch, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchild. In honor of Gail's life and her courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation at Parkinson's Foundation Donation to support ongoing research and assistance for those affected by this challenging condition. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Butterfly Oasis and Gentiva Hospice, whose dedication and kindness provided comfort to Gail in her final days. Gail's life was a testament to resilience, love, and creativity. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, as her spirit continues to guide and uplift us.
