It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail Ellison, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on April 6, 2026. Born on July 4, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Gail was a beacon of love and creativity throughout her 85 wonderful years. Gail was the cherished daughter of Richard and Marie (Merila) Hatch. Her early years were spent in Detroit, where she cultivated a love for art and creativity that she carried throughout her life. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Michael Ellison, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage since their union on a summer day in 1982 in Plymouth, Michigan. Gail also joins in eternal rest her parents, her dear sister Sharon (Hatch) Durham, and her beloved Michael. A dedicated and skilled professional, Gail worked for many years as a secretary at the American Motors Corporation. Her meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. Gail's life was enriched by her many hobbies, which included painting, jewelry making, and shopping, activities through which she expressed her vibrant spirit and artistic flair. Her paintings and handcrafted jewelry were not just hobbies; they were reflections of her soul, each piece telling a story of creativity and passion. Gail’s legacy lives on through her children, Gregg (Dawn), Scott (Katherine), and Karen (Curt Dame), who carry forward her values of kindness and resilience. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Hatch and her eleven grandchildren: Darcy McBroom, Darren Blach, Tiffany Updike, Tony Updike, Jordan Updike, Ryan Updike, Brandon Updike, Stephen Updike, Amelia Dame, and Mitchell Dame. The joy of her later years was her great-grandchild, Emma Rose, who brought immeasurable happiness into her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, an organization close to Gail’s heart, at Parkinson's Foundation Donation Page. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Butterfly Oasis for their compassionate care during Gail’s final days. Their kindness and support were a comfort to Gail and her family, providing solace during a difficult time. As we say goodbye to Gail, we remember her as a woman of strength, beauty, and unfaltering love. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her spirit will forever be a guiding light in our lives. May she rest in eternal peace.
