In Loving Memory of Gail Ellison July 4, 1940 – April 6, 2026 With a profound sense of loss, we announce the passing of Gail Ellison, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Gail passed away on April 6, 2026, at the age of 85, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Her indomitable spirit and unwavering strength were an inspiration to all who knew her. Born on July 4, 1940, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan, Gail was the cherished daughter of Richard and Marie (Merila) Hatch. She grew up surrounded by the love of her family, including her sister Sharon and brother Thomas. Gail's early years were filled with the values of resilience and determination, which she carried throughout her life. A proud graduate of Redford High School, class of 1958, Gail embarked on a professional journey as a secretary with American Motors Corporation, where she dedicated many years of her life. Her colleagues remember her as a woman of exceptional organizational skill, direct wit, and a generous nature, qualities that made her a cornerstone of the workplace and a cherished friend to many. Gail's life was marked by her profound love for her family. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Gregg (Dawn), Scott (Katherine), and Karen (Curt Dame), raising them with strength and compassion. Her family was her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in her 11 grandchildren: Darcy McBroom, Darren Blach, Tiffany, Tony, Brandon, Stephen, Jordan, and Ryan Updike, Amelia and Mitchell Dame, and her great-grandchild, Emma Rose. Each one of them was a testament to her nurturing spirit and boundless love. In 1982, Gail married her second husband, Michael Ellison, in Plymouth, Michigan. Together, they shared 39 beautiful years, during which their love and partnership flourished. Michael's passing left a profound void in her life, but Gail continued to honor their shared memories and the life they built together. Gail was an artist at heart, finding joy in painting, creating beautiful jewelry, and the occasional shopping spree. Her creative spirit was a reflection of her vibrant personality, and her creations were cherished by those fortunate enough to receive them. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael, her parents, Richard and Marie, and her sister, Sharon. Gail's legacy of love and kindness lives on in the hearts of her surviving family and friends, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit with them. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Butterfly Oasis and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care during Gail's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, an organization close to Gail's heart, to honor her memory and continue the fight against the disease that took her from us. Donations can be made at Parkinson's Foundation Donation Page. Gail Ellison's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and creativity. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and left an indelible mark on the world. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Gail. Your legacy lives on through the lives you have touched and the love you have shared.
