Gail Ellison
July 4, 1940 — April 6, 2026
With heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Gail Ellison, who departed this world on April 6, 2026. Gail passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, a testament to her enduring strength and grace.
Born on July 4, 1940, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan, Gail entered the world with the spirit of independence and resilience that would characterize her life. She was the cherished daughter of Richard and Marie Hatch, whose love and guidance shaped her into the remarkable woman she became.
Gail's formative years were spent in Detroit, where she graduated from Redford High School in 1958. Her keen intellect and exceptional organizational skills led her to a fulfilling career as a secretary at the American Motors Corporation, where she worked diligently for many years. Her colleagues remember her not only for her competence and dedication but also for her warm, direct wit that brought joy and laughter into the workplace.
In 1982, Gail married the love of her life, Michael Ellison, in a beautiful ceremony in Plymouth, Michigan. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories during their 39 years of marriage. Michael was Gail's steadfast partner and unwavering support until his passing.
Gail was a devoted mother to her children, Gregg (Dawn), Scott (Katherine), and Karen (Curt Dame), each of whom inherited her strength of character and generosity. Her family was her pride and joy, and she delighted in her role as a grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Darcy McBroom, Darren Blach, Tiffany Updike, Tony Updike, Brandon Updike, Stephen Updike, Jordan Updike, Ryan Updike, Amelia Dame, and Mitchell Dame. Her legacy continues to bloom through her great-granddaughter, Emma Rose, who brought immense joy to her life.
Known for her creativity and artistic flair, Gail found joy in painting and jewelry making, hobbies that allowed her to express her vibrant spirit. She also had a passion for shopping, a pastime she enjoyed both for the treasures she found and the time spent with loved ones.
Gail is predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael; her parents, Richard and Marie Hatch; and her sister, Sharon (Hatch) Durham. She leaves behind her brother, Thomas Hatch, whose bond with her was unbreakable even in the hardest of times.
In honor of Gail's life and her battle with Parkinson's, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, a cause close to her heart. Contributions can be made online at Parkinson's Foundation.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Butterfly Oasis and Gentiva Hospice, whose kindness and dedication provided comfort to Gail in her final days.
As we remember and celebrate Gail's life, we hold her memory in our hearts, inspired by her unwavering strength, love, and generosity. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved Michael and all those she cherished who have gone before her.
