In Loving Memory of Gail Ellison July 4, 1940 – April 6, 2026 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gail Ellison, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on April 6, 2026. Gail departed peacefully after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, surrounded by her loving family. Her indomitable spirit and unwavering courage throughout her journey were a testament to the strength that defined her life. Born on July 4, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Gail was the cherished daughter of Richard and Marie Hatch. She grew up in a warm and loving home, alongside her siblings, and graduated from Redford High School in 1958. It was there she forged lifelong friendships that she treasured dearly. Gail was a woman of remarkable resilience and generosity, raising her three children, Gregg, Scott, and Karen, with unwavering dedication and love. Her children, along with their spouses, Dawn Maurer, Katherine Lockhart, and Curt Dame, brought immense joy to her life. She was a proud mother who celebrated their successes and comforted them in times of need, always offering her sage advice and direct wit. In 1982, Gail found love once more and married Michael Ellison in Plymouth, Michigan. Together, they shared 39 beautiful years of marriage until Michael's passing. Their union brought Gail the blessing of "bonus" daughters, Dawn Cowhy, Rosanne Ellison, and Laura Shopshear, who she cherished as her own. Gail's family continued to grow, and she was blessed with 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Gail’s creative spirit found expression through her hobbies of painting, jewelry making, and shopping. She delighted in crafting beautiful pieces and sharing them with family and friends. Her generosity extended beyond her family, touching the lives of many who had the privilege to know her. Gail was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Ellison, her parents Richard and Marie Hatch, her sister Sharon Durham, and her precious granddaughter, Alexandra Updike. She is survived by her children, brother Thomas Hatch, and her extended family, who will carry forward her legacy of love and generosity. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Butterfly Oasis and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care during Gail’s final days. Their support was invaluable, and the family is deeply appreciative. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Gail’s memory may make donations to the Parkinson's Foundation, an organization close to her heart, at Parkinson's Foundation. A celebration of Gail's extraordinary life will be held at a later date, where her family and friends will gather to share memories and honor the remarkable woman she was. Gail's legacy of love, strength, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Gail. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
