Gail Ann Day, a cherished resident of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on May 9, 1943, in Malden, Massachusetts, Gail embarked on a beautiful journey through life that touched the hearts of many. In 1997, she and her family moved from Cheshire, Connecticut, to Venice, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Gail was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her presence was a beacon of joy to all who knew her, and her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed.
Professionally, Gail excelled as a bookkeeper and entrepreneur, roles in which she demonstrated her remarkable skills and dedication. After retiring, she embraced her time in Florida with enthusiasm, becoming an active member of the Pelican Pointe Golf & Country Club. Her participation in the Niners Golf League and her proud achievement of a hole-in-one were among the treasured moments she held dear.
Gail's love for games and puzzles was well-known among her family and friends. She delighted in playing Shanghai, Rummy, and Mahjong, and she enjoyed the satisfaction of completing search puzzles. Her passion for travel and baseball led her on a remarkable journey to visit all 30 Major League Baseball parks, creating a tapestry of memories that her family will cherish forever.
Family was the cornerstone of Gail's life. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Thomas S. Day, Jr.; her son, Christopher Allen Day; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Day; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Tylor Day, Kelly Day, Clarissa Day, Angelica Day, Braydon Day, and Novella Day. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Day; brother, Lee Phalen; sister-in-law, Marion Phalen; niece, Kimberlee Phalen; and nephew, Brian Phalen. Gail was preceded in death by her beloved son, Thomas C. Day.
Gail's legacy is one of love, laughter, and enduring memories. Her family will carry forward her spirit, sharing the stories and joy she brought into their lives. Though she has departed this world, her love remains a guiding light for all who knew her.
A special tribute to Gail will be made during her funeral service, as her great-grandson, Tylor Day, honors her memory with a saxophone performance of "Amazing Grace." This touching musical tribute embodies the deep love and admiration her family holds for her and celebrates the beautiful life she lived.
Service Information
A viewing for Gail will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Venice on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. During the service, Gail's great-grandson, Tylor Day, will perform "Amazing Grace" on the saxophone in loving memory of his great-grandmother. Burial will take place at Venice Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
