friend and volunteer

October 5, 1931 — November 24, 2024

With heavy hearts and profound respect, we commemorate the life of Charlotte White, a beloved friend, devoted volunteer, and cherished family matriarch. Born on October 5, 1931, in the quaint town of Winterport, Maine, Charlotte graced this world with her presence for 93 remarkable years before peacefully passing on November 24, 2024. Her journey through life was enriched by an unwavering dedication to family, community, and creativity. Charlotte’s life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and artistry. She was predeceased by her dear husband of 60 years, Captain Frank White, US Navy Retired, with whom she shared a life filled with adventure and devotion. Together, they traveled the world, embracing the unique experiences that only a life in the Navy could provide. Upon Frank's retirement, they returned to the comforting embrace of Winterport, where Charlotte’s roots ran deep. A proud graduate of Winterport High School, Charlotte was not only a lifelong learner but also a gifted teacher. Her artistic talents were vast, and she delighted in sharing her love for painting with anyone eager to learn. Her passion for art intertwined beautifully with her love for gardening, as she cultivated and displayed the most exquisite flowers and plants. Her artistic flair found expression in her fundraising efforts, where she lovingly painted flowers on Christmas ornaments, a gesture that brightened both local club events and state meetings from 2002 to 2004. Charlotte’s commitment to community service was unwavering. As an active member of the GFWC Winterport Woman's Club for 47 years, she served as President twice, first from 1982-1984 and again from 2001-2002, stepping up with grace and leadership whenever needed. Her home was a sanctuary for club meetings, where she welcomed guests with her trademark warmth, offering them coffee and tea from her treasured silver tea service, using her special teacups collected from her travels. Her creative spirit extended beyond art and into the realm of design. Charlotte’s ingenuity was showcased in a memorable skit, featuring recyclable fashion that she designed and crafted. This innovative presentation, which included garments made from plastic bags and newspapers, was so admired that it was featured at a state convention in Portland. Charlotte’s life was a testament to kindness and wit, attributes she carried with the elegance of a Captain’s wife. Her friends and family remember her as a beacon of warmth and humor, always ready with a smile and a story. Tea times at her home were cherished gatherings, filled with laughter, delicious treats, and the sharing of memories that left indelible marks on the hearts of those who attended. Surviving Charlotte are her two sons, a daughter, and her cherished grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her boundless love and wisdom. Her legacy is further carried by many friends and the countless lives she touched through her volunteer work. As we bid farewell to Charlotte, we find solace in the joy she brought into our lives. Her club sisters will forever hold dear the words of their collect, “Let us forget not to be kind,” a sentiment Charlotte embodied in every aspect of her life. She leaves behind a world more beautiful and compassionate, a world that was undeniably enriched by her presence. Charlotte’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who shared in her life and, in her memory, encourages all to carry forward her legacy of kindness, creativity, and grace.
