Fredric C Scholl
May 16, 1930 — May 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Fredric C. Scholl, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Fredric departed this world peacefully at home on May 25, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by the love of his cherished wife and immediate family members.
Fredric was born on May 16, 1930, in Monroe, Michigan, to Irving Scholl and Lucelia Gertz. He grew up in a home filled with love and laughter alongside his brother Robert and sisters Margaret, Marilyn, and Nancy. Fredric was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his beloved daughter Rebecca, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and love.
A proud alumnus of Monroe High School, Fredric graduated in 1948. His early years were marked by a passion for life and an unwavering dedication to his country. He served with honor in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant, and was stationed on the frontlines in Korea from 1950 to 1952. Upon returning home, he pursued his education at barber school, earning his barber license in the 1950s.
Fredric's career was a testament to his adaptability and work ethic. After working at the Lay-Z-Boy chair company, he embraced a new chapter as a barber. When changing trends in hair care presented new challenges, he transitioned to a fulfilling career with Jeep, where he worked until his retirement in 1990.
On September 29, 1950, Fredric married the love of his life, Darlene L. Keinsley. Their remarkable journey of 75 years together stands as a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their son Gregory Scholl and daughter Rebecca. Fredric's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Phillip Scholl and Jessica Balkovec, and his great-grandsons, Matthew Toole, Evan Balkovec, and Merlin Scholl.
Fredric's life was rich with friendships and community involvement. As an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry, he was dedicated to serving others. His hobbies included square dancing, bowling, and participating in a monthly card club with friends. His joy for life was contagious, and he shared it generously with his grandchildren, teaching them card games and taking them on memorable summer vacations.
Known for his compassion, kindness, and a joking manner, Fredric had an infectious smile that could light up any room. His joy in performing magic tricks and telling jokes brought laughter to those around him. He was light-hearted yet firm when needed, embodying a balance of warmth and strength.
Fredric is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene; his son, Gregory Scholl (Pamela); his grandson, Phillip Scholl; his granddaughter, Jessica Balkovec (Steven); and his great-grandsons, Matthew, Evan, and Merlin. He also leaves behind nieces Lisa, Jan, Barb, and Pam, nephews Paul, Dan, Tim, David, Gray, and Dale David, and an extended family of loving great-nieces and nephews.
A service to honor Fredric's life will be held on June 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4560 Glendale Ave, Toledo, OH 43614. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry, a cause close to Fredric's heart, at https://www.lutheranchurchcharities.org/give-lcc-k-9.html.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Waterford at Levis Commons and Care 360 Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
In Fredric's own words, "I love you, Darlene." These simple yet profound words echo the depth of his love and devotion to his family, a love that will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
