Frederick Ridgeway

Frederick Ridgeway, a devoted father, cherished grandfather, and beloved brother, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on August 26, 1951, in St. Louis, MO, Frederick was the treasured son of Clarence and Cornelius Ridgeway, who preceded him in death. Frederick's journey through life was marked by his profound love for family and a strong sense of community. He was raised in St. Louis but found his true home in Detroit, where he attended Mackenzie High School and later dedicated many years working at a steel plant on the city's west side. His commitment to hard work and providing for his loved ones left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Frederick was a man of simple pleasures. He found joy in watching baseball and was an avid music enthusiast, often losing himself in the melodies that filled his home. His greatest passion, however, was his family. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, Dakota, Denver, and Bronx, and took great pride in being an integral part of their lives. Frederick's life was enriched by the love he shared with his late partner, Paris, with whom he had his beloved daughter, Lenetric. After moving to Detroit, he found love again with Dana Shurn, and together they welcomed their son, Demetric, in June of 1994. His family was his world, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted children, Demetric and Lenetric; his sister Patricia and her husband Charles; nephews Patrick and LeTrey, with his wife Lethia; niece DeRhonda and her husband Ray; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity. A celebration of Frederick's life will be held on August 18, 2026, at the Northwest Activities Center, located at 18100 Meyers Rd, Detroit, MI 48235. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life was defined by his unwavering love and dedication to those he held dear. In honor of Frederick's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of giving and community. Frederick Ridgeway will be deeply missed but forever remembered, as his love and spirit live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
