January 11, 1967 — January 29, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Frederick L. Moore, Sr., affectionately known as Fred, on January 29, 2026. Born in Chicago on January 11, 1967, Fred was a beacon of strength and kindness who touched the lives of everyone he encountered. After a courageous battle with complications from diabetes, he succumbed to liver failure, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience. Fred was the cherished son of the late L.C. (Lawrence) and Gloria Moore, and he carried their values and dignity throughout his life. He is predeceased by his beloved parents, as well as his devoted uncles, George Moore, Jr., Robert Moore, and Joe Moore, and his dear aunt, Martha Todd. Fred is survived by his former wife, Thelma Moore (Johnson), with whom he shared a journey of love that began on August 7, 1994. Though their paths diverged, their union brought the joy of their son, Lawrence T. Moore, into the world. Fred was a dedicated father to his three children: Frederick L. Moore, Jr., Lawrence T. Moore, and Princess A. Moore (Prince). He was a proud grandfather to four adoring grandchildren: Ian, Chosen, A.J., and Serenity, who were the light of his life. Fred's brother, Christopher Matthews, along with a host of close friends and extended family, will forever cherish the memories of his warmth and generosity. Fred's educational journey began at Gresham Elementary School, where he graduated in 1981. He then excelled at Dunbar High School, graduating in 1985, and went on to build a remarkable career. He found fulfillment in his work at Home Depot, Aronson's Furniture, and Colorado Tile before settling in at SBC/Ameritech. Upon retiring from SBC (now AT&T), Fred pursued his passion by launching Moore's Home Improvement, LLC (MHI). Through MHI, Fred provided job opportunities for many, earning the respect and gratitude of countless satisfied customers and employees. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Fred was a man of vibrant interests. He had a knack for bringing people together, hosting gatherings filled with fellowship, laughter, and the irresistible aroma of smoked meats, lovingly prepared on his grill. His personal style was iconic—known for his sharp dress, Fred's outfits, complete with a full-length leather coat and a Dobbs hat, were as unforgettable as the man himself. A service to celebrate Fred's life will be held on March 16, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the MW St. John Grand Lodge, located at 7443 South Ingleside Ave., Chicago, Illinois, 60619. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor the indelible mark Fred left on all our hearts. The Moore family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Holy Cross Hospital, Little Company of Mary Hospital, and DaVita Dialysis (Beverly) for the compassionate care and support provided to Fred during his journey. Fred L. Moore, Sr.'s life was a testament to love, perseverance, and community. His spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace, enveloped in the warmth and love he so generously shared with the world.
