Frederick Fennell

Frederick Fennell, affectionately known as Fred, passed away at his home on September 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 11, 1940, in Staten Island, New York, Fred was the cherished son of Edna and Nicholas Fennell. Fred proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed as an Aviation Boatswain Mate aboard the USS Constellation CVA 64 during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service was a testament to his character and commitment to those he loved. After completing his military service, Fred returned home and worked as a Sanitation worker. His work ethic was matched only by his passion for sports. A true New Yorker at heart, Fred was the biggest fan of New York sports teams, almost going pro in baseball. Fred was an avid golfer, rarely missing a day on the course. His love for the game was paralleled by his love for life, family, and friends. To know Fred was to love him; his warmth and kindness touched everyone he met. He treasured the time spent with his family, especially his beloved wife, Beth Fennell, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised three cherished children: their late son Joseph, and daughters Beth Bivona and June Fennell. Fred's legacy lives on through his wife, Beth, his daughters, and his three adored grandchildren: Joseph Fennell, Thomas Fennell, and Stefanie Bivona. He also leaves behind a host of friends who will dearly miss his humor, generosity, and unwavering friendship. He is predeceased by his son Joseph, his brother Robert, and his sister Janet Montoya. Their memories will forever reside in the hearts of those who knew them. A wake to honor Fred's life will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 4-8pm at John Vincent Scalia Funeral Home located at 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, NY, 10312. Mass will be held on September 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare’s Church, located at 110 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY. Fred will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
